Go to the EPA website and take a look at the table that explains extreme events that could be caused by global warming.
http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/effects/extreme.html
What are some extreme events that could occur? Do you see any evidence in the last few years that these things are already starting to occur? What can we do to slow down the process?

changes in the Earth’s orbit
ReplyDeletea brightening or dimming of the sun
melting or surging ice sheets
strengthening or weakening of ocean currents
emissions of climate-altering gases and particles into the atmosphere
one problem is ''Damage to crops; windthrow of trees'' we can solve it by growing crops in an area where there isn't any tropical cyclones by growing crops in a place thats not tropical. Or maybe in a greenhouse of some sort.
ReplyDeleteAn exreme event that can occur is extinction due to drastic changes in the environment. Yes, more and more species are become extinct from weather changes which are effecting the crops and plants. We could try to slow down on using products that deplete the ozone layer.
ReplyDeleteAn example of global warming and some extreme events that it has caused are the melting of the glaciers. Some things we can do to stop this are car pooling to cut down on carbon emmissions. LONG LIVE THE POLAR BEARS!!!
ReplyDeleteDue to droughts, there is an increased amount of food and water shortages, wild fires, and diseases. There are not much we can do about droughts.
ReplyDeletethe drought and the crops
ReplyDeleteWe really need to use public transportation more, because the CO2 in non-hybrid cars creates acid rain once the CO2 is up high enough, and also the CO2 makes
ReplyDeleteholes' in the ozone. Get a hybrid car to save gas, money & the environment!
due to droughts, water shortages, wild fires and diseases
ReplyDeletePollution is thining the ozone layer so more radiation gets to thye earth and it gets hotter.
ReplyDeleteEffects on water resources will rely on snow melt.

ReplyDeleteHigh sea levels can affect agriculture, water sources, human health, and industry. It can affect humans by there being an increase in deaths by drowning in floods;and an increase in stress-related disease.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in global warming.
ReplyDeleteI still dont beleive Global Warming is true. Prove to me that this isn't just the earth going through another one of its stages....there was an ice age long before we were releasing CO2 in the atmosphere
ReplyDeleteIncreased risk of food and water shortage and wild fires; increased risk of water- and food-borne diseases
ReplyDeleteAll low lying islands are going to be submerged forcing people to find shelter else where. This is going to cause social unrest.
ReplyDeleteA few islands around the equator have already been evacuated as some of them are now underwater due to rising sea levels.
ReplyDeleteIncreased risk of food and water shortage and wild fires; increased risk of water- and food-borne diseases
ReplyDeleteit shocks me that melting glaciers can end up affecting someone at birth
Solutions to slowing or stopping global warming lie in mankind's ability to slow and stop activities that inject greenhouse gases into Earth's atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteContrary to popular belief, we will never be able to stop global warming. Even boiling water contributes to Global Warming, in fact it contributes 70% of all global warming effects.
ReplyDeleteReduced yields in warmer regions due to heat stress at key devel. stages; fire danger increase
ReplyDeleteIn the past few years many wildfires have happened proving that this is true
global warming is bad and we need to stop using so much co2

i love polar bears just like colleen! they are so totally awesome and i wish i could be one too!!!. I LOVE ALL ANIMALS YAY!!!!<3333333333
ReplyDeleteThe extinction due to drastic changes in the environment. more species are becoming extinct from weather which is effecting the crops. We could try to change on using products that mess around witht he ozone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenna she brings up good points.
ReplyDeletesince 1950 heat waves have become more frequent
ReplyDeletethe drought and the crops
ReplyDeleteweek 2 post
ReplyDeletesend them more food and put down the twinkies
increased water demand
ReplyDeletefire danger increase
increased deaths by drowning in floods
week1 post
ReplyDeletei dont have much to say
week 8 post
ReplyDeleteglobal warming isnt cool
Increase in deaths by drowning in floods from high sea level occuring.
ReplyDeleteIn the last few years, the sea has already started to rise and is still rising.
Recycling can help stop this destruction.
the drought and the crops
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is a huge problem and i think we should do everything to prevent it. Like not using much gas and what not. Its not fair that the polar bears are going to become extinct. Theyre so cute :)
ReplyDeleteThere is no evidence to support that any of these enviromental changes will happen. Predictions and mass hysteria is not enough to support the theory of Global Warming. Even so, new scientific advances will be able to deal with the changes in the earth over time. Since we are always advancing in technology.
ReplyDeletei think its already happening because fires have been increasing
ReplyDeletePower outages cause disruption of public water supply
ReplyDeletethe polar ice caps could melt and flood the world.
ReplyDeleteand there is proof sam. hahaha
ReplyDeletejust look at all the websites!!
to stop this we can carpool to school, or take the bus rather than driving.
ReplyDeleteMore people will die by drowning in floods.
ReplyDeleteKelsey W.
Melting ice caps in antarctica and the north pole is a direct cause from Global Warming.
ReplyDeletemelting or surging ice sheets,
ReplyDeleteThe polaer icecaps are melting causing habitats to be destroyed
-Christina
Changes in weather patterns can result from abrupt changes that might occur spontaneously due to interactions in the atmosphere-ice-ocean system, or from the crossing of a threshold from slow external forcing. the changes in the weather i see now is that its getting colder earlier in the year
ReplyDeletesam moore---alex amado
Damage of crops.
ReplyDeletePower outages.
More intense cyclones
Incidence of extreme high sea level: increases :
ReplyDelete1. Salinization of irrigation and well water
2. Increase in deaths by drowning in floods; increase in stress-related disease
The world is already beginning to show signs of global warming. The sea levels are advancing and studies show the sea level will move up almost 200 ft in the next 10 years
ReplyDeleteCBE said The polaer icecaps are melting causing habitats to be destroyed. Thats true...the polar bear population is near extinction

ReplyDeleteGlobal Warming effects the Earth in small ways that will eventually add up to dramatic conquences if we let it get to that point. But we are not going to, because theres so much attention on it, maybe even too much. Instead of talking about Global Warming Polotians should take action.
ReplyDeletethere is an increased amount of food and water shortages, wild fires, and diseases
ReplyDelete~To stop this we can carpool to school, or take the bus rather than driving.
ReplyDelete~Andwe can shut the water off when we are not using it at that point and time.
extreme events that could occur are the melting of the ice caps, which are already occuring. global warming is effecting our climate and making drastic changes in the weather patterns
ReplyDeleteOne event caused by global warming is warmer days and nights over most land areas. This has already begun to occur, because Earth's average temperature is shown to be increasing a small amount each year.
ReplyDeleteThis can be stopped by people make an effort to stop pollution by carpooling or riding abike more often. Also, people can save energy by buying efficient bulbs and turning off or unplugging electrical units when they are not in use.
The ice could melt and flood a lot of places. We could cover the ice with white so the sun would reflect. Antarctica is already melting and looks different

ReplyDeleteThis means that the sea level is rising pretty quickly...
slow down the prosess of what
ReplyDeletePollution is thining the ozone layer so more radiation gets to the earth and it gets hotter
ReplyDeletei agree wit kdogellis it is bad for earth
ReplyDeletethe ozone could deplete and the ice caps could melt use more power like wind or water
